Black Netting Cover Initiatives

New initiatives are introduced at our Living Labs! This time black netting covers have been implemented to effectively reduce light intensity within the tanks. The aim of this innovation is to:

Exciting Developments at Njala University

Exciting developments are underway at Njala University in Sierra Leone as rice husk carbonisation takes centre stage, showcasing the institution’s commitment to sustainable practices. Meanwhile, a remarkable 30.2kg of fish has been harvested from the Living Lab, with detailed information carefully documented. Notably, Aquaculture and Fisheries Management students used 15.2kg of freshly harvested fish for their practical processing sessions. This demonstrates an approach to learning and skill development within the university’s dynamic educational system.

Innovative Project at Cameroon Living Lab

Students from the Department of Engineering at the College of Technology, University of Bamenda, have embarked on an innovative project. Inspired by their visit to the Bamenda University of Science and Technology – BUST Living Lab of INCiTiS-FOOD, students have constructed prototypes during their practical sessions both at graduate and undergraduate levels.
One participant conveyed the collective perspective of all team members engaged in this project:


“We believe that by harnessing the power of organic compost, we can create a more environmentally friendly and resilient agricultural system.”

The initiative not only demonstrates students’ practical application of knowledge but also highlights their commitment to sustainable agriculture.

Students are Gaining Valuable Practical Experience at Egerton Living Lab

Students want to learn and gain valuable practical experience. At Egerton Living Lab students are taking data on fish parameters. This practical exercise deepens their understanding of fish biology, behaviour, and aquaponics.

KU Living Lab Team

Collaboration is very important for success! The KU Living Lab team is working closely with three students. The goal is to share knowledge, learn together and build a more sustainable agriculture together.

Organizing Training Sessions and Working on Black Soldier Fly Pupae at the University of Ibadan

It is very eventful at the University of Ibadan! As a part of the academic journey, Practical year students of the department are attending their training sessions. Also, a training session has been organized for Agriculture students at Immanuel College in Ibadan. Meanwhile, technical assistants are actively engaged in the Insectary, focusing and working on the Black Soldier Fly (BSF) pupae, with the aim to advance research and practical knowledge in insect farming.

The Nigerian Air Force was impressed upon reviewing the prototype from the Aglobe Development Center. Dedication and hard work put into the creation of the prototype was recognised. The innovative design exceeds expectations!
