Partners from the Bamenda University of Science and Technology (BUST) Living Lab represented the INCiTiS-FOOD project during the North West Regional celebration of World Water Day in Cameroon. Taking place in Bamenda, the event created space for dialogue between local communities, institutions, and practitioners on one of the region’s most pressing challenges: sustainable water management. By contributing to these discussions, the Living Lab highlighted how circular food production approaches can support more efficient water use in agriculture.

This activity highlights that our Living Labs are testing diversified crops and supporting practical learning around sustainable food production. The experience contributes to shared knowledge on crop performance and management within the INCiTiS-FOOD Living Lab network.

At the Bamenda University of Science and Technology Living Lab, mint plants are now being grown as part of ongoing activities. The plants were a gift from the University for Development Studies Living Lab in Ghana, received during a recent Living Lab exchange visit. This reflects how collaboration between Living Labs can lead to practical and meaningful outcomes.

The Bamenda University of Science and Technology Living Lab team is testing the cultivation of strawberries under three different growing media: sawdust, soil, and a mixture of sawdust and soil. This experiment is part of ongoing efforts to explore innovative approaches to crop production within the Living Lab.

At the Bamenda University of Science and Technology (BUST) Living Lab, Pisum sativum (pea plant) is currently being tested. The plants have begun fruiting, marking a positive step in evaluating their performance under local conditions.

This trial is part of the wider effort within the INCiTiS-FOOD project to explore diverse crops suited for sustainable, integrated food production.

Heads of Departments from the University of Bamenda visited the Living Lab for a training session aimed at further promoting and sharing the INCiTiS-FOOD technologies with students, the university community, and local residents. Representatives from Animal Production Technology, Crop Production Technology, Agribusiness Technology, and Agricultural and Environmental Engineering departments explored the setup and recognised its potential for practical learning and application. As a gesture of collaboration, they received fresh cabbages from the hydroponic system showing that local production systems are capable of outputting fresh and nutritious food.

The Bamenda University of Science and Technology Living Lab presents its hydroponically grown cabbage (Brassica oleracea). This is one more achievement that showcases the incredible work our Living Labs do in advancing sustainable agricultural practices!

Exciting News from Bamenda University of Science and Technology (BUST) Living Lab! After many months of hard work and dedication, the BUST Living Lab is thrilled to announce the successful fruiting of okra. Okra, a flowering plant in the mallow family native to East Africa, is cherished for its edible green seed pods and is cultivated in tropical, subtropical, and warm temperate regions around the world. This versatile vegetable is a staple in the cuisines of many countries, valued for its nutritional benefits and culinary versatility.

Students from the Faculty of Health Sciences recently visited Bamenda University of Science and Technology (BUST) and were impressed by the wide variety of prototypes showcased in the Living Lab. The visit shows that the INCiTiS-FOOD Living Labs foster collaboration and intrigue from different departments all gathering together for a common goal – sustainable development.

At Bamenda University of Science and Technology LL, participants completed questionnaires and made the first step in their onboarding process. This marks a crucial step in their journey towards advanced learning and practical experience.
