The INCiTiS-FOOD project has achieved another milestone with its feature on the EU CAP Network website. This recognition highlights INCiTiS-FOOD’s role in advancing circular technologies for urban and peri-urban food systems across Africa. The increased visibility not only affirms the project’s importance but also strengthens its connection to broader European and global sustainability initiatives.
About the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Network
The EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Network is a platform designed to support the implementation of the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy by encouraging knowledge exchange, dissemination of best practices, and cooperation among agricultural actors. It brings together diverse stakeholders, ranging from farmers and researchers to policymakers, and rural communities. The network encourages innovation, enhances environmental and economic performance, and promotes sustainable rural development. In doing so, it contributes to key CAP objectives, including climate action, biodiversity conservation, and rural resilience. Funded by DG AGRI and delivered through the European Network for Rural Development (ENRD), the platform also plays a key role in shaping and guiding the implementation of CAP Strategic Plans for 2023–2027.
The network operates through different components:
- National Contact Points (NCPs) – bridge local agricultural stakeholders with EU-wide initiatives to ensure effective and tailored implementation of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
- Specialised Working Groups – focus on crucial CAP themes such as environmental sustainability, rural development, CAP governance, and agricultural innovation, identifying challenges, proposing solutions, and shaping policy advancements.
The EU CAP Network also offers a variety of resources and support services, such as collections of best practices and case studies. It promotes hands-on learning through webinars, training courses, and interactive workshops. In addition, the network organises conferences and networking events that encourage dialogue and ongoing refinement of CAP strategies, reinforcing cooperation among researchers, policymakers, and agricultural stakeholders.
In summary, the EU CAP Network is built around four key aims:
- Strengthening communication and coordination between the European Commission, Member States, and stakeholders involved in the CAP to support coherent policy implementation
- Encouraging collaboration across agricultural projects and initiatives, promoting the efficient use of resources and shared learning
- Supporting knowledge exchange by disseminating innovative practices, new technologies, and research-based solutions that contribute to more sustainable farming systems
- Showcasing practical, proven approaches to agriculture, helping farmers and practitioners adopt effective methods that improve both productivity and sustainability.
About INCiTiS-FOOD
INCiTiS-FOOD aims to improve food and nutrition security by implementing innovative, resource-efficient solutions such as aquaponics, insect farming, and hydroponics in urban and peri-urban settings. The project’s innovative approaches are designed to operate with minimal land, water, and financial requirements, making them highly suitable for African urban settings.
A core element of INCiTiS-FOOD is its network of 8 Living Labs across six African countries – Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, and Gabon – which act as testing grounds for these circular solutions. The Living Labs not only adapt technologies to local conditions but also organise onboarding workshops and training sessions, ensuring that local communities are actively involved in creating sustainable agricultural futures. This multi-actor approach encourages diverse stakeholders.
Understanding the Broader Impact of INCiTiS-FOOD’s Promotion on the EU CAP Network
Featuring INCiTiS-FOOD on the EU CAP Network significantly enhances the project’s visibility, extending its reach to European and global stakeholders. This recognition fosters deeper knowledge exchange, promotes joint learning on sustainable practices, and opens the door to new collaborations through thematic workshops, webinars, and practical abstracts.
As a project working at the intersection of food systems, sustainability, and local innovation, INCiTiS-FOOD stands to benefit considerably from this platform. The exposure supports wider dissemination of its approaches.
