Final Recap: A Successful Webinar Series
On July 31st, we concluded the webinar series that INCiTiS-FOOD organised in collaboration with EWA-BELT – a Horizon2020 Project, marking a significant milestone in fostering cross-continental collaboration. Consisting of three sessions, the series brought together experts from Kenya, Ghana, and Sierra Leone to explore innovative approaches in crop production, community engagement, and resource management. The interactive discussions provided valuable insights into sustainable practices suitable for African regions. We are grateful to all speakers and participants for making it a success!

Showcasing INCiTiS-FOOD: Highlights from Recent Events
- Nigeria EU Days: Dr. Olusegun Oyebola from the University of Ibadan spoke on the panel titled “EU-Nigeria Ongoing Successful R&D Projects” highlighting the contributions of INCiTiS-FOOD.
- Nakuru Agricultural Show: Egerton University Living Lab proudly represented the INCiTiS-FOOD project, raising awareness about the Living Lab’s structure and the cutting-edge technologies used.
- Cooperation Lounge Africa – Bavaria: Dr. Emmanuel Benjamin, co-coordinator of the INCiTiS-FOOD project, showcased our project’s objectives and goals at the event focused on “Rethinking Collaboration in Research & Innovation.”
- Kenya National Research Festival 2024: Egerton University Living Lab represented INCiTiS-FOOD at this major event held from August 19th to 23rd, where they showcased the innovative circular farming techniques being implemented in our project.
- Nigeria International Agriculture Expo 2024: Dr. Oyebola and other colleagues from the University of Ibadan represented the INCiTiS-FOOD project at this expo, held from August 27–29 at the International Trade Fair Center in Abuja, Nigeria. The project was featured in a high-profile panel discussion, highlighting innovative approaches in sustainable agriculture and food security.
- Africa Food Systems Forum 2024: Our co-coordinator, Dr. Emmanuel Benjamin participated in the Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) panel in Kigali, Rwanda. Under the theme “Innovate, Accelerate, and Scale: Delivering Food Systems Transformation in a Digital and Climate Era,” Dr. Benjamin highlighted how our project’s innovative approaches are transforming African food systems.
- African Food System Forum 2024: Our partner from Wageningen University participated in the session titled “Climate Smart Agriculture and Scaling Pathways”. Different participants from various organisations, universities, EU representatives, farmer organisations, investors, and donors showed a great interest in the topic.

Onboarding Success Across Our Living Labs
After a fantastic start, the onboarding processes within our Living Labs are making a lot of progress.
- On June 28th and 29th, the University of Ibadan hosted the first training of the onboarded participants which saw a huge turnout! Attendees gained hands-on experience by building aquaponic and hydroponic units.
- In August, Njala University celebrated a significant milestone with their onboarding story and held a successful inaugural meeting with key representatives.
These onboarding programs are an important part of the INCiTiS-FOOD project, since they not only transfer essential skills but also foster a strong sense of community, engagement, and commitment to sustainability within our Living Labs.

Celebrating Global Events: INCiTiS-FOOD is Making a Difference
Over the past three months, we’ve proudly celebrated important global events like Farmworker Appreciation Day, World Water Week, and the Day for People of African Descent, reflecting on how our work supports the themes of these important initiatives.
