INCiTiS-FOOD Roadshow Events Launch: Empowering Innovators in Circular Food Technologies Across Africa

INCiTiS-FOOD is thrilled to announce the launch of Roadshow events, across six African countries, providing participants with essential information on upcoming Open Calls, showcasing innovative sustainable agri-food technologies developed in the participating country Living Labs, and offering opportunities for training, networking, and financial support.

INCiTiS-FOOD Open Calls and Roadshow Event Timelines

In October and November 2024, the INCiTiS-FOOD project will host eight Roadshow events across six African countries. These events will provide participants with key information on the Open Calls, along with insights into the innovative technologies applied within the INCiTiS-FOOD Living Labs.

In its mission to empower stakeholders and strengthen multi-actor collaborations, INCiTiS-FOOD is set to launch two Open Calls as part of the project’s financial support to third parties. The Open Calls provide opportunities for applicants and consequently winners to not only contribute to the expansion of the local ecosystem, engage in capacity building of the community, but also improve livelihoods. By driving innovation forward and advancing knowledge in the field of hydroponics, RAS/aquaponics, insect farming and sustainable food waste solutions the Open Calls aim to enhance the reach and positive footprint of INCiTiS-FOOD.

The first Open Call, scheduled for late 2024, invites legal entities of civil society organizations (incl. NGOs, cooperatives, secondary schools and tertiary institutions) to unite and apply as consortium members and form so-called Local Innovation Hubs with the aim to replicate and/or advance INCiTiS-FOOD solutions to a higher scale or even propose novel circular food system solutions aligned with the project objectives. A second Open Call will be launched later, offering further opportunities and funding for Independent Innovators (start-up entrepreneurs and SMEs) who will focus on integrating solutions into the INCiTiS-FOOD Living Labs.

The Roadshow events are aimed to take place on the following dates and locations:

  • 23rd October 2024 – Bamenda University of Science and Technology, Cameroon
  • 28th October 2024 – Université des Sciences et Techniques de Masuku, Gabon
  • 13th November 2024 – Aglobe Development Center, Nigeria
  • 14th November 2024 – University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria
  • 18th November 2024 – University for Development Studies, Ghana
  • 21st November 2024 – Njala University, Sierra Leone
  • 26th November 2024 – Kenyatta University, Kenya
  • 27th November 2024 – Egerton University, Kenya

At each of the eight Roadshow events, attendees will receive information on the Open Calls and learn about the technologies used in the INCiTiS-FOOD Living Labs. These events will also offer opportunities to pitch ideas, receive training, and benefit from personalised feedback. Additionally, they provide a valuable chance for networking and building connections within the industry and on a local level.

About the INCiTiS-FOOD project

INCiTiS-FOOD, a 4-year EU-funded project launched in January 2023, is dedicated to driving sustainable agri-food technologies across Africa, with a focus on Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, and Gabon. The project is reshaping agricultural practices through innovative, circular approaches that emphasise resource efficiency and environmental sustainability.

By co-developing and implementing technologies such as hydroponics, aquaponics, and insect farming, INCiTiS-FOOD introduces solutions that recycle resources, reduce waste, and enhance the resilience of local food systems. A key factor behind the project’s success is its network of 8 Living Labs, spread across 6 African countries, which serve as real-world testing grounds for these innovations. The Living Labs not only adapt technologies to local conditions but also organise onboarding workshops and training sessions, ensuring that local communities are actively involved in creating sustainable agricultural futures. These initiatives provide participants with essential education on sustainable farming practices, fostering a broad base of knowledge and skills.

The INCiTiS-FOOD Project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme and all the information is available on the project’s website, Facebook, Instagram, X (Twitter), LinkedIn and YouTube.
