WiseFood
The WiseFood project, a 3-year EU-funded Horizon Europe project launched in January 2025, aims to empower citizens to make healthier and more sustainable food choices by combining artificial intelligence, reliable food-related data and expert knowledge. The project develops smart digital solutions that make information on nutrition, health and environmental sustainability more accessible, personalised and easier to use in everyday decision-making.
A core part of WiseFood is the development of three digital applications: FoodScholar, which provides trustworthy information on nutrition, health and sustainability through a natural-language interface; RecipeWrangler, which analyses recipes based on their nutritional value and environmental impact and suggests potential improvements; and FoodChat, which provides personalised meal plans and recipe recommendations while supporting healthier and more sustainable habits and reducing food waste.
An important element of WiseFood is its network of three Living Labs in Ireland, Hungary and Slovenia, where citizens and other stakeholders participate in the co-design and testing of the solutions. Through workshops and real-life testing, the Living Labs provide feedback that helps adapt the applications to users’ needs and different national contexts.
