The institutions involved:
Management of Arid Zones Initiatives and Development Options International (MAZIDO)
Taita Taveta University (TTU)
Three o'clock (3OC)
Description of consortium's main objectives:
The consortium aims to develop and promote a locally produced Black Soldier Fly (BSF) based fish feed that reduces dependence on fishmeal. Building on this, the project supports local economic development by building skills and business opportunities around BSF-based feed systems. In parallel, it seeks to foster knowledge transfer and research-driven innovation with local and regional stakeholders in Taita Taveta County. To achieve this, the consortium fosters innovation by combining community knowledge with academic research. Furthermore, the project demonstrates a closed-loop waste system that turns local organic waste into useful products. Finally, the consortium works with county and national authorities to ensure that insect farming and BSF-based feeds meet regulatory standards and are integrated into local policies.
