Université des Sciences et Techniques de Masuku

Technology

Hydroponic, aquaculture and Aquaponic

Goal

Particular emphasis will be placed on training and support for vulnerable people and volunteers. The number of people trained will be our performance indicator. We are also aiming to train certain households in waste sorting in order to recover biological waste.
Finally, we plan to support small traders by supplying them with our vegetables and fish in a win-win partnership.

Why Université des Sciences et Techniques de Masuku?

Franceville, also known as Masuku, is a town situated in Gabon. It serves as the capital of Haut-Ogooué province and Mpassa department and ranks as the third-largest city in the country in terms of population. Positioned at a relatively high altitude near the Batéké plateaux, which extend into the Congo, Franceville enjoys a milder climate compared to other regions. The weather is sub-equatorial, featuring a brief dry season spanning three months from June to August. The town centre thrives within a deep basin, surrounded by hills, savannahs, and forested areas. Within this vibrant setting, the USTM living lab operates with a team of dynamic and dedicated individuals. Their daily efforts revolve around developing innovative concepts and techniques aimed at reducing food dependence and promoting the production of nutritious food for the residents of Franceville and its neighbouring areas. The site itself engages in the cultivation of diverse crops and fish farming. It serves as both a production and demonstration site, welcoming, training, and providing support to individuals interested in establishing agricultural activities.
